VP Records' annual dancehall talent showcase is here again and as usual mainly focuses on Jamaica's best known stars who have scored notable hits across last year's hottest street beats.

In addition to boasting tracks from veterans such as Elephant Man, Busy Signal, Vybz Kartel and Mavado, 'Strictly The Best Vol.49' also features a number of 'crossover' boom tunes, such as the dubstep flavoured opening track by Sean Paul called Riot. In combination with Damian 'Jr. Gong' Marley, he brutally samples parts of 'A Ruffer Version', the furious dub version of Johnny Clarke's '70s hit 'Don't Trouble Trouble'. The result is an awesome tune, a sure shot killer tune! The inevitable Major Lazer is responsible for the huge success of Bunji Garlin's Differentology - remix stylee! More remix style and fashion is provided by Mr. Vegas, assisted by Sean Paul, Fatman and Scoop. Party Tun Up (Remix) is a decent effort, but we prefer the original lick of Party Tune Up, a tune across the 'Belize Rum' riddim.

QQ's current hit tune One Drop is featured here in its original form with the help of Venomos, though a Major Lazer remix was released recently. The tune about a new dance is best enjoyed watching the video! Busy Signal pays tribute to Shabba Ranks with a do-over of Bedroom Bully. Mavado's Million Dollar Man is underpinned by the 'Raw Cash' riddim from early 2013. Samantah J, one of the many new talents pon the dancehall firmament, relicks the Red Rat dancehall tune of the same name, while Elephant Man deals with the hype that 'Miley Cyrus' caused. Check the video, Elephant Man as an Egyptian pharaoh! Mr. Vegas returns at the end of this compilation with a 2013 update of the 'Sleng Teng' riddim. He's assisted by Snoop Lion aka Snoop Dog, who changed his path from gun-toting gangsta-rapper to the peace-and-love Rastafarian, who claims to have been reincarnated. How serious should you take that as he recently changed his name again and now wants to be called Snoopzilla?!

Dancehall is definitely changing!
